Pancreatic Injuries



Abstract
A clinical study was undertaken to review 8 cases of the pancreatic injury, that were admit-ted to the Kyungpook National University Hospital from Sept 1974 to Aug 1975, and the results were as follows;
1) All the cases were males and the age distribution was 2nd decade 2 cases, 3rd decade 3 cases, 4th decade 2 cases and 5th decade 1 case.
2) Most of the cases were n6n-penetrating injury (blunt trauma). (7 cases)
3) The injured sites of the pancreas were head 1 case, body 55 cases- and tail 2 cases, respec-tively.
4) Five cases of the pancreatic injury were associated with concomitant injury and single organ injury was in 3 cases.
5) As the diagnostic aids, serum amylase determination was helpful in 2 cases and hemoperitomeum was confirmed by the abdominal paracentesis almost all cases.
6) The operative management of the injured glands were pancreaticoduodenectomy, resection, simple drainage and external drainage according to the extent, location and type of the lesions.
7) The post-operative complications were leakage, sepsis, duodenal obstruction, hemoperi-toneum with upper G- I bleeding, ventral hernia, pseudocyst, renal failure and partial obstruc-tion of small bowel.
8) The mortality rate was 25% and the causes of death were sepsis and renal failure.
